Meet James, Our New Head Coach

We are very pleased to announce that our new Head Coach, James Martin, will be joining the Club at the end of March!

Following a thorough recruitment process, we’re delighted to welcome someone who already knows the Club well, having previously been both a member and an early-career coach here.
Many of our members may remember him.

With over 20 years of coaching experience in the local area, James brings a wealth of knowledge, energy and ideas.
We are excited about the future of tennis at the Club with him as Head Coach.

To help you to get to know him a little better
we asked James a few questions…

Welcome! How does it feel to be joining the Club as Head Coach?
It’s a real honour to be joining the Club in this role. I have fond memories of previously being a member and working under Pete who was an excellent mentor when I was starting my coaching career.   I’m immensely grateful for this opportunity – it feels like a homecoming.

Tell us a bit about your coaching background?
I’ve been lucky enough to spend the past 20 years coaching tennis in the local area, working with players of all ages and abilities. It’s been hugely rewarding helping people develop their game and, most importantly, enjoy being part of a tennis community.

What attracted you to this role?
The Club has strong and promising foundations – great members, strong community spirit, and a real love of the game. I’m excited to build on that, explore new ideas, and help develop a strong vision for the future of the club.

What can members look forward to?
I’m looking forward to meeting everyone and getting some new coaching groups started. My aim is to create opportunities for players of all levels to improve, enjoy their tennis, and feel part of the Club.

Any final message for members?
I’d like to say a big thank you to the Club and the Committee for giving me this opportunity.
I’m really looking forward to seeing members around the courts for some new coaching groups soon – and a drink round the bar on a Friday night!
